It exists for structural backfill, deep trenches and road foundations where a roller cannot reach and a smaller plate cannot deliver, and its mass makes it a lift chart and transport decision as much as a hydraulics one.

Where the CPT910 sits in the range

The CPT series has three sizes. The CPT180 at 170 kg covers 2 to 5 tonne mini excavators and the CPT425 at 430 kg covers 5 to 9 tonne machines; the CPT910 is the top of the series. What the published figures mean on site

The stated 110 t force to ground is a supplier comparison figure produced under the manufacturer’s test method; the CPT180 page sets out why such a figure ranks plates rather than guarantees density. The temptation specific to the heaviest plate is to read it as permission for thicker lifts. It is not: a heavier plate lets the contractor work at the thicker end of what the geotechnical specification allows, and a project with a specified density still requires field testing. Build the compaction program from the engineer’s requirements and treat the 110 t simply as the heaviest of the three.

The 50 to 100 L/min and 100 to 170 bar windows sit within what a 12 to 20 tonne carrier’s hammer circuit delivers. The 900 kg mass is the figure that shapes everything else: it is at the end of the dipper, often at full reach into a deep trench or over a wall, and it is vibrating while it is there. That is a real entry on any 12 tonne lift chart and a continuous shock load on the pins and hitch.

Typical work and production considerations

Major service and pipeline trenches, bridge abutment and culvert backfill, road foundations in confined widths, structural fill around footings, and hardstand and access track construction on mining, solar and wind sites are the CPT910’s work. Production is measured in compacted cubic metres per hour or linear metres of trench at a given width and lift, and at this scale the excavator is usually waiting for fill delivery rather than the other way around. An illustrative model: a 1 m wide pipeline trench backfilled in 300 mm lifts with three passes per placement gives a rate set by boom cycle time and the loader feeding the trench. On road corridors the traffic control setup is a fixed daily cost and on pipeline and mining sites the constraint is often the trench being open for the minimum time; a compactor on the excavator that dug the trench closes it faster than waiting for a separate plant item. Limitations and when to choose a different family

A plate on an excavator compacts where reach matters; a roller wins on open pads for coverage and uniformity, and on large road foundations the two work together. Where the carrier is under 12 tonnes the CPT425 is the right tool, and putting the CPT910 on a machine at the bottom of its band with a long-reach front is asking for a stability problem before a compaction one. Where the ground is still full of roots after clearing, compaction is premature and a stump cutter or stump grinder comes first. A plate is not a forestry tiller: broad-area ripping and mounding for plantation establishment need dedicated silvicultural equipment.

Options and configuration to settle at quotation

The quotation items are the series’ (bracket and hitch and its weight, circuit type and drain, hose lengths, carrier flow and pressure settings, plate width and any rotation or tilt), with one addition that only applies at this size: confirm the hitch’s rating for continuous vibratory duty in writing rather than assuming the carrier’s standard hitch covers it. Ask for the delivered weight in the ordered configuration and the current hydraulic requirement.

Wear parts and support

The inspection points are the series’ (base plate, isolation buffers, motor seals, bracket pins and the frame at the vibration mounts), and at 900 kg the buffers and the frame around them take a beating that a smaller plate does not deliver. Treat buffer condition as a scheduled check rather than a fault report.

No. It is a supplier comparison figure under the manufacturer's test method. Material, moisture, lift thickness and passes determine field density, and specified projects still need testing.

Can I run the CPT910 on a 10 tonne excavator?

The published band starts at 12 tonnes. Below that, the CPT425 is the correct tool.

Does the CPT910 change how the excavator is transported?

It can. A 900 kg attachment is a separate item on the float, and it is worth confirming whether it travels fitted or on the deck before the first mobilisation.

Does a heavier plate let me use thicker lifts?

Only within what the geotechnical specification allows. A heavier plate does not compensate indefinitely for backfill placed in excessive lifts.
