What the published figures mean on site
The nominal 400 mm figure is a cutting class, not a promise about eucalypt. It says the twin-blade system can be driven through stems of that order under suitable conditions; it does not say how long a dense 400 mm butt takes or how often the head should do it. Plan production around the stem sizes that make up most of the site and treat the 400 mm class as headroom (the maximum diameter versus production diameter guide explains the sampling). The twin-blade architecture is the reason to pay for a WR rather than a single-blade head of similar rating: two Hardox blades penetrating from both sides shorten the travel each blade needs, reduce fibre crushing and give a cleaner face on merchantable timber. Since the WR10 is the lightest of a family that starts at 1,250 kg, expect a configured head with rotation and bracket to sit well above that base, and get the exact number in writing.
Carrier matching
A 12 to 16 tonne band is a starting point only. A WR10 holds the tree it has just cut, so the useful figure is the over-side lift-chart value at the working radius minus head, rotator, bracket and hitch. As an illustration only, assume a 14 tonne excavator rated at 2,600 kg over the side at six metres and a configured attachment of 1,500 kg: 1,100 kg remains for the stem, which is comfortably a 250 mm hardwood tree of moderate height and not comfortably a 400 mm one. The WR10 fits the 12 to 16 tonne machines that dominate road corridor clearing, rail corridor vegetation and subdivision and civil clearing because the carrier is easy to float under traffic control or into a rail possession window and easy to return to bucket work afterwards. A realistic corridor site might present half its stems between 150 and 300 mm, a third below 150 mm and a small tail above 350 mm. The WR10 handles the middle and the tail in single cuts; the smaller stems are where the optional accumulator earns its money by bunching before each placement. Rotation matters more here than in open-paddock work, because a stem cut on a batter must be turned and laid along the corridor rather than dropped across the carriageway or the track. Limitations and when to step up or down a size
Step up to the WR15 when the carrier is 17 tonnes or larger, when 400 mm plus stems are routine rather than occasional, or when the lift arithmetic above keeps landing on the wrong side. Step down to a WL when most stems are below 250 mm and access, transport or carrier stability dominate. Do not push a WR10 onto an 11 or 12 tonne machine on the strength of the family’s 11 tonne floor without a written compatibility assessment for that exact excavator.

Settle the rotation type (360° dual-motor or twin-cylinder, or none), the accumulator, the fork tower for handling larger stems, the steep-slope pedestal where embankment work is expected, the bracket and hitch, the hose and coupler package, and the total configured weight.
